Welcome from Principal Carlton McGee

Greetings! My name is Carlton McGee, proud principal at Hall STEAM Magnet! Through our two academies, Health Science and Engineering, our students will engage in opportunities to prepare them for STEAM related careers and job opportunities. Our academies and pathways will provide rigorous learning opportunities focused on the development of solutions to real world problems, through research and critical thinking skills in the areas of STEAM. Together our faculty and staff will ensure learning for all students at Hall STEAM Magnet. #fullSTEAMahead

UAMS Academy of Health Sciences

The UAMS Academy of Health Sciences at Little Rock STEAM Magnet High school will provide a rigorous and hands-on approach to education in the healthcare industry. In this academy, students will take courses through the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum exploring different avenues of healthcare in biomedical science, the human body and medical interventions. Not only will this prepare students for college, but we also career readiness by offering industry certification in dental assisting and other programs. By immersing students in this pathway, our goal is to empower them to build knowledge skills like problem solving, critical thinking, communication and collaboration that will prepare them for a future after high school.

School Information

Pathways

The Biomedical Sciences pathway allows students to play the roles of biomedical professionals as they investigate and study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology and public health.

Academy of Engineering

Our Academy of Engineering will be the center for high school engineering here in Central Arkansas and across the state. Our goal is to provide students a national caliber pre-engineering career academy that emphasizes an integrated approach in technology, science, computer science, mathematics and humanities. The mission is to prepare students to be proactive and creative problem solvers that thrive in real-world applications of STEAM through a rigorous, specialized curriculum and collaborative partnerships resulting in career or college readiness.

Pathways

Utilizing the Project Lead the Way curriculum, the Computer Science Software Development pathway is designed for students interested in computer programming. Students will develop standard programming techniques and learn the logic tools and methods typically used by programmers to create simple computer applications. Students will learn how to develop the applications that allow people to do specific tasks on a computer and to develop the underlying systems that run the devices or control networks. Computer science software development will prepare students for careers using technical and academic skills to design, develop, test, implement and maintain computer software.

This pathway is for students who wish to pursue careers in robotics, electronics, and related engineering and technology fields. Through Project Lead the Way, students will be introduced to the principles of engineering and the engineering design process.  They will apply those skills in the context of robotics, electronics, and automated systems. Upon completion of this pathway, students will be prepared to pursue engineering studies or an advanced study in the STEM field of their choice.
