We are proud participants of the Academies of Central Arkansas, where we prepare scholars for their futures.

Academy of Building, Automotive and Design

Academy of Building, Automotive & Design

We have a fully operational automotive shop. Our scholars learn how to take a motor apart, diagnose vehicles as well as compete in competitions for scholarship money.  Computer-aided design incorporates architectural design and drafting.  Welding and machining are offered as other construction options.

Pathways

The HVAC pathway prepares students to understand the basic functions and skills needed in residential and commercial heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration. Possible careers include HVAC technicians, energy auditors, and equipment performance-testing specialists.

In this pathway, welding students learn metallurgy, blueprint reading, fabrication of metal, sanding and grinding, oxy/fuel cutting, hand-held plasma cutting and CNC plasma cutting. Welders can find career opportunities in areas such as engineering, robotics, education and project management.

Students in the Automotive Services pathway will diagnose and solve hands-on problems using computerized diagnostic equipment and traditional tools for the maintenance and repair of vehicles and be ready to work in the automotive service, sales, business management and engineering fields.

This pathway prepares students for the various disciplines of construction, providing students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the building systems and components required for a construction project. Students will be able to interpret construction drawings, perform basic math skills, demonstrate the construction crafts required for each phase of a construction project and safely use and maintain appropriate tools, equipment, and resources to accomplish construction project goals. Future careers include plumber, carpenter, maintenance technician, building inspector, electrician and construction manager.

The Architecture Construction pathway prepares students for a variety of engineering and design professions including architectural or civil design. Students will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills by identifying the relationship between available resources and requirements of a project/problem to accomplish realistic planning. Students create design solutions for sophisticated problem sets as they progress through the pathway

Unity Health Academy of Health Sciences & Safety

This academy includes a Medical pathway that involves CNA, Phlebotomy, Foundations of Health Care and first responders with a medical instructional lab and classroom. The Cyber Security pathway also falls within this Academy and allows scholars to learn the ins and outs of ethical hacking and the nuances of defending against hacking. It is equipped with a cyber range for hands on practice. Criminal Justice simulates real life application of the law. Scholars engage in activities such as fingerprinting and traffic stops.

Pathways

This pathway prepares students to pursue careers or further education and training in nursing directly out of high school. Students will study anatomy and physiology, patient care, medical equipment usage, medical terminology and medical office skills. This program of study is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills for a range of nursing careers such as home health aide, medical assistant, registered nurse and physician’s assistant.

This pathway prepares students for a range of careers in law enforcement, public safety, criminal justice and cyber security. The cyber security program specifically is designed for students interested in protecting computers, networks, programs and data from unintended or unauthorized access, change or destruction. Possible careers include pre-law, law enforcement, computer support specialist, information security analyst, computer systems analyst or computer network architect.

Academy of Service, Sales & Marketing

JHS offers a full-scale culinary program with a functioning restaurant, Simply Delicious. Scholars learn how to run the front and the back of a restaurant.  The entrepreneurial aspect in this academy allows scholars to learn about small business operations, marketing, JAG and DECA.

Pathways

The Culinary pathway covers the components of commercial kitchen safety and sanitation, proper tools and equipment, quality food production, and service operation. Possible careers include caterer, food/beverage manager, and executive chef.

In this pathway, students who are interested in becoming an educator will learn course content that covers the components of instruction, teaching strategies, types of assessments, student learning, special populations, educational technology, classroom management, lesson planning, professionalism and more. Possible careers include teacher assistant, childcare workers, and teacher.
